The Year 5 Teacher is Mr Beynon

Our Topic this term is 'Power of people'

This year we will developing the new curriculum in Wales meaning that the children will have more say in what they want to learn. Pupil voice will be leading our teaching and their ideas will be incorporated into our context work on ‘Power of People’

We will be continuing our international project and mainly looking at powerful figures from Wales, Spain, Romania and Turkey.

The children have decided that this is what they want to learn in each area of learning this term:

The children have decided that in each new Area of Learning we will learn:

Humanities (History, Geography and RE): Leaders- Heroes v Villains, biographies of inspirational people in different fields and influential people in the local community

Expressive Arts (Music, Art, DT and creative movement): Design, make and test an invention to help a group of people. Focus on famous artists and create their work.

HOMEWORK

Homework books have been given out with work grids detailing this terms homework. Children must complete a minimum of 3 by half term.

Spelling lists are given out fortnightly on a Monday.

Spelling challenges are completed the second Friday after having their new words.

Reading books have been given to all children. Please can you encourage your child to read regularly at home. We have a new system of Guided Group Reading with the children so there will be less comments by myself and the teaching assistants in the children's reading record books as their reading progress will be recorded on their personal records in school.

P.E. Days

Every Monday and Friday we will be doing PE so please remember your kit on these days!

Depending on the weather we intend to do the 'Daily Mile' challenge where learners run/walk a mile every day. Children do not need kit for this just a comfy pair of shoes or trainers!
